Ben and Jerry’s want to launch CBD infused ice cream, in hopes of jumping on the cannabis oil trend. The ice cream company shared a photo of a mock-up of what could be a new ice cream tub to their Instagram.
The caption read: ‘Trend alert! CBD-infused ice cream is (maybe, hopefully) coming to a freezer near you!’
And, unsurprisingly, people went pretty wild for the idea:
‘Thank. You. For normalising. Hemp and cannabis. The work you guys do is SO much more than just ice cream.’ One follower wrote.
Someone else added: ‘Ben and Jerry’s continuing to be the ice cream we didn’t know we needed’.
Of course, Ben & Jerry’s is an American brand, and even though CBD is legal in many states, currently the FDS prohibits adding CBD to food and beverages. However, the company has submitted a comment in support of changes to CBD legislation. This follows a FDS hearing concerning the legality of using CBD in food products.
The brand is hoping that eventually, CBD-infused ice cream is something they’ll actually be able to roll out.
Ben & Jerry’s CEO Matthew McCarthy said: ‘
We’re doing this for our fans. ‘We’ve listened and brought them everything from Non-Dairy indulgences to on-the-go portions with our Pint Slices. We aspire to love our fans more than they love us and we want to give them what they’re looking for in a Ben & Jerry’s way.’
