New CBD and Cannabis Edibles and Beverages Under Development

1st August 2019

Lexaria Biosciences is a corporation who have utilised DehydraTECH™ technology, to improve the bioavailability, taste and speed of action of a number of orally-administered products. Lexaria have signed agreements with 11  companies in Canada and the USA, to produce CBD and Cannabis edibles and beverages.

The aim of these companies is to produce more effective CBD and Cannabis edibles and beverages. DehydraTECH™ has been, both laboratory and market, proven to enhance the gastrointestinal absorption of a large number of compounds.

Of the 11 new licensing agreements, six are with Hemp and CBD companies, and five with Cannabis companies across Canada and the USA. In signing these agreements with Lexaria, the companies will have access to the DehydraTECH™ tecnology.

DehydraTECH™ technology has a record of significantly increasing the release of CBD in the body. In fact, it has been known to release 20 times more CBD into brain tissue. In addition, it is also able to enhance the flavour and speed of action of CBD uptake.

This is good news for consumers because, even though CBD has become a hugely popular ingredient, it’s taste can often leave much to be desired. Ingredients become essentially flavourless and odourless when processed with DehydraTech™. The method also allows compounds to by-pass the ‘First Pass’ effect.

First Pass Effect

The First Pass effect is the rapid uptake and processing of a substance, into active compounds, in the liver. The processing of the substance in the ‘First Pass’ takes place before it reaches the systemic circulation. As a result, the amount of active compounds that can be used effectively, is significantly reduced.

When added to liquids and ingested orally, the bio-availability of CBD is extremely low. This is partly because water and oil don’t mix well.  Lexaria’s DehydraTECH™ is designed for delivering fat-soluble products, like CBD, more effectively.

Hill Street Beverages

One Global company, Hill Street Beverages, has signed multiple agreements with Lexaria, for terms covering 10 years. Hill Street Beverages a non-alcoholic drinks company aimed at patients who are unable to consume alcohol – whether down to medications orpersonal choice.

Hill Street Beverages is working with Lexaria to produce a range of non-alcoholic, Cannabis-infused wines, beers and edibles in the future.
